It is with a great sense of sadness that I write this update to our website. Our companion, friend, confidant and much loved yellow lab Blade passed away recently and we miss him very much. In August 06 he developed a cough which on further investigation was the result of cancerous tumors in his chest. Our family decided not to pursue aggressive treatment for various reasons and we elected instead to keep him as comfortable as possible. He responded beautifully and did extremely well until early November when it became clear that his condition had progressed beyond our ability to control.Up until this time however he continued to go to work with me and perform his "duties" which I know he took very seriously. He would keep a constant eye on my activities and whereabouts in the office and visit frequently with clients and their pets as they came to the hospital.
I would like to thank all of you who have expressed your condolences and let you know that they are greatly appreciated. It was very comforting to know that others understood the depth of our loss. I would also like to especially thank one of our assistants, Michelle Sherman for helping me to ease Blades passing. At 12:00 am she was willing to come to my home and help with this very difficult situation.
The experience of dealing with Blades illness and loss have helped me to remember what it is like to "be on the other side of the exam table" and to be aware of the decisions and processes which our clients have to deal with when making decisions concerning their own animal companions. I hope that I never forget how difficult this process can be. Among all the other gifts he gave me, I have Blade to thank for this as well. He will be missed and never, ever forgotten.
